Workshop on Delhi’s Heritage

Venue: INTACH head Office, 71 Lodhi Estate, New Delhi Date and Time: April 24, 2018, (9.00 AM to 3.30 PM) The workshop was divided in to 6 sessions of 45 min each. The first session was on ‘Introducing and Understanding Heritage’ by Ms. Purnima Datt (Principal Director, INTACH HECS). She explained through a presentation, the difference between natural heritage and cultural heritage. She also briefed about built heritage and material heritage. The second session was ‘ Delhi’s Heritage and issues related to Urban Heritage’ by Prof. AGK Menon (Founder Member INTACH; advisor and former convener INTACH Delhi, Architect, Urban Planner and Conservationist). Inter House Quiz

As August month was devoted to freedom celebrations so an Inter House Quiz was conducted for the students of Classes VI-VIII on the topic 'Cultural Heritage and Geographical Diversity of India' and a quiz for the students of classes IX-XI on the topic India’s National Movement . The students very enthusiastically participated and showcased their knowledge about their country and freedom movement cherishing the values of freedom and equality.

Cherishing India’s freedom August 15, 1947  is the day engraved in gold in the history of India. It is the day when India attained its freedom from the clutches of a long slavery of over 200 years of the British Rule. It was a long and hard struggle in which many freedom fighters and great men laid their lives for our beloved motherland. To celebrate the 71st Independence Day and 75years of Quit India, the students of  Gyan Devi Salwan Public School celebrated the month of August as the Social Science Month. A plethora of activities were planned to celebrate our Independence, Our Heritage, Our beautiful Culture. Three Intra Class Activities were conducted from Classes VI-XI. The students were shown a video on how our constitution was drafted and framed, the purpose of the preamble was explained and the students were asked to learn the preamble along with the guiding values, a short quiz was also conducted after the discussion. World Heritage Day!

18 TH April is celebrated as World Heritage Day . Hence it was decided to make the children aware of at least one monument in India, that has been included in UN’S list of World Heritage Sites. On 26 th April, the task of enlightening the students about Qutub Minar was undertaken. An informative video (sourced from Youtube) explaining the history, special features of the Qutub Minar and the Qutub Minar Complex was shown to the students. It was followed by an interactive discussion with students who shared their knowledge, fond memories of visit to the monument, interesting facts and queries about the monument. The students also learnt how to sketch the picture of Qutub Minar . On 3 rd May, Dharohar Club students used their creativity and acquired knowledge of Qutub MInar in preparing pamphlets for the same. Students were shown how to fold an A-3 sheet into a pamphlet. They did the needful and created interesting pamphlets with either handwritten or printed informat

Performance Day

Performance day of Dharohar club (Junior and Senior) was organized on 24 th January and 6 th February, 2017. DHAROHAR Club members gave presentations on the year round activities taken up by them. The Junior Club’s presentation began with a brief explanation of Dharohar and its importance in our lives. Tanmay, Priyanshi and Kashvi reinforced the same through a poetry recitation in Hindi. Senior Club members shared their experiences of the visit to the Humayun’s Tomb. They also apprised the students with objectives and vision of the Dharohar Club. The students of the club proudly showed their membership cards that they had themselves made, using their own creativity and liking. Next in line was a brief description of the shadow puppetry class, wherein students showed the shadow puppets prepared by them and gave a brief description on how they used them.  Student showcased the teej greeting cards that the students had made using mehendi designs. Heritage

Indus Valley people seem to have loved toys. They made many toys, such as toy carts and toy animals, from baked clay. Little Archaeologists of Heritage club were shown toys made by people of Harappan Civilization through video. They were also guided by the sculptor Mr.Narender who showed them how to make humped bull, tortoise, squirrels , cows etc. The students then tried their hand in making these toys with the clay and also sun baked them to harden it.

Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations

Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations Gyan Devi Salwan Public School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on 4th October,2016 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the father of our nation-Mahatma Gandhi  with great zeal and enthusiasm. The assembly began with a rendition of bapu's favourite devotional song Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram. A skit was presented by the students which depicted important movements of Gandhi ji like Champaran, Non- Cooperation, Dandi March and Quit India. It gave a glimpse of Gandhiji’s life and principles.The school principal, Ms. Mukul Jha enlightened all the students about the matchless political leader who led the nation to freedom. The assembly ended with the Gandhi ji’s last words “HEY RAM” resonating in the air.
